Fag Hag: Week In Review

Friday Friday Friday! It’s the Fag Hag Week In Review and I know you’ve all been waiting…

First, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the passing of Ted Kennedy. I think this commentary sums it up nicely.

A moment of silence, observed.

We now return to our regularly scheduled gossip and debauchery.

Please check out the following. It just proves why you MUST love Anderson Cooper. And no, I’m not referring to those persistent gay rumors… No, I refer to this video.

What would a Fag Hag post be without a reference to True Blood? It wouldn’t be – hello?! This post is not however about what is MINE (aka vampire Eric)– and I will fight a b*tch for him (I’m talking to you JOY). Instead it is about the upcoming introduction of the Vampire Queen, played by none other than Evan Rachel Wood. And to quote Christy (who will soon be a contributor!) “This is one of those things that seems so right, it's almost wrong that it did not happen from the beginning.”

And to sweeten the pot, she’s a queer vampire queen. Good gawd! Check it out!

Do you twitter? If not, you should start if only to vote YES on the creation of Harvey Milk Day.

Do you watch Gossip Girl? I don’t. But I do read gossip sites (too many) and thought you might be interested in the following, Chuck Bass kissing a boy, thanks Ausiello.

Enjoy your weekend, and to repeat my previous request – comment now and comment often!

P.S. Amy G. reminded me that though I did not give the Time Traveler’s Wife a good review, not even while watching it, I did cry. I did, she handed me tissues while I muttered about how stupid the story was. There, I said it.

Heroic Milwaukee Rescue

I am always happy when I see news from Milwaukee that isn't about how terrible and backwards the city is. Earlier this week a mother and her two children were trapped in their burning SUV and were rescued by bystanders.

It's amazing that not only were some off-duty firefighters around but that enough people helped out - and ultimately saved the lives of those individuals in the burning SUV. Good job Milwaukee!

Though half of the people there were totally useless... I'm glad enough of the bystanders were helpful.

Rep. Broun (R-GA): Public Health Care "is gonna kill people."

I really shouldn't be surprised at this point by what comes out of the mouth's of our elected officials. Case in point - Mark Sanford and Sarah Palin - but I just couldn't believe the garbage that spewed out of Georgia Republican Paul Broun's mouth on Friday on the floor of the House.

My favorite part of his speech comes when he talks of the Canadian and British universal health plans and states, all-knowingly, that they "don't appreciate life like we (the US) do, evidently." Really? What the f*ck does that mean? Dude, you are an @sshole!

The United States dramatically needs health care reform. And that can be nothing less than a public health care option. I'd go farther to say that we need a single-payer system. If you happen to live in Georgia - or just want to share your thoughts with Rep. Broun - call or email his office and let him know what will actually kill people (poverty, wars, hunger, not being able to get treatment for cancer, etc.) and scold him for his irresponsible, partisan rhetoric. You can reach his office at (202) 225-4101.

News: Prop 8 Update & more...

The California Supreme Court is expected to announce it's decision over the legality of Proposition 8 - the ballot referendum that stripped away marriage equality for same-sex couples in California last November - today at 10 PST.

No one knows exactly how they will rule but based on the comments the justices made during oral arguments most experts believe the court will uphold Prop 8 but will also refuse to nullify the 18,000 marriages that were performed while same-sex marriage was legal in California. Check out Equality California's site to stay up to date as the day progresses.

Events are planned all over the country this evening. Click here to find an event in your area.

In related news, last week Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the State Department would soon offer employees in same-sex relationships equal benefits. In the memo provided by the State Department last week Secretary of State Clinton writes: "At bottom, the department will provide these benefits for both opposite-sex and same-sex domestic partners because it is the right thing to do."

And since we are waiting with bated breath for news from California's Supreme Court it is also newsworthy to note that President Obama is expected to announce his choice for the Supreme Court to fill David Souter's upcoming vacancy during an announcement at 10:15 EST at the White House. He is expected to nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
