First Impression: Brooklyn

Over the weekend I made the journey - along with Patrick and Jim - to our new home in Brooklyn. After having an amazing Going Away Party on Friday we woke up early on Saturday and set sail. The weather was terrible. It snowed, rained, snowed again, sleeted (is that a word?), and rained a bit more all the way from Milwaukee to New York.

What should have taken us about 14 hours took us about 23 hours. We arrived in Brooklyn at 7am on Sunday. We slept for a few hours before the movers arrived at 11. The movers - from Shea Moving, Inc. - were amazing. The two guys that showed up unpacked that truck and carried everything up to a third floor walk-up faster than 6 people packed it. They were amazing!

I was a bit nervous to see the apartment since Patrick was the only one to see it before we signed the lease. He told me the neighborhood (Greenpoint) was vibrant, very Polish, near our friends, and most importantly - we could afford it. It turns out my worries were unmerited. The apartment is perfect.

We have slowly been exploring the neighborhood and I will post pictures this afternoon.

I think 2009 will be a very exciting new year!
